Mount Pisgah Wedding | Caitlin & Michael | With Rachael Kruse Photography
Confession: I had never been a 2nd shooter for another photographer until this wedding. I know, it’s a great way to learn, it’s probably a good thing to do occasionally just to see how others work and figure out ways to improve. But, with three kids at home, a wife who is an amazing photographer herself, and a career that just sort of jump-started itself and has continually kicked me in the butt; I just haven’t worked with wedding photographers that are not married to me. Well, except for a few second photographers that I hire when Rachel can’t shoot with me, but that’s another story.
So, when my good friend Rachael Kruse from Seattle asked me to help her find a 2nd shooter in the area I jumped on the chance to help her out myself! She was very pregnant, the wedding was for friends of mine, it was a Friday, and my wedding the next day was only a couple of hours away. Perfect, huh?
These images are a bit different from my usual wedding blog post and I contemplated whether or not I should share them. In the end I decided to because it’s cool to see a different perspective, it’s fun to have variety! But before you see tons of photos just let me offer a small disclaimer. My focus for this wedding was really the groom, Michael. I was definitely on man duty and I took the task of trying to tell the story from the groom’s perspective. That was fun! Secondly, there are a lot of images I would normally shoot at each wedding and include in a blog post here, but my job for this one was really just to support Rachael and help make her shoot go easier. She was the lead photographer and I made my best effort to compliment her style. I’m only sharing my images, so to some, this may not show the full story of the day (for example, no portraits of Caitlin because Rachael was handling that, no getting ready for the girls, etc.) And, Rachael’s work is amazing, please go check it out!

You killed it as a second….
I wish I could individually pick the moments I think are amazing!
You could 2nd for me or my wife any wedding.
We were their neighbors and I was pretty jealous when I thought you were the primary. I feel a little better knowing the details. LOL
Cheers,
Russell
Thanks! That would be fun to get to shoot together sometime!
