Event Photographer | Tarzan Eugene | New Hope
I was super blessed to get to shoot photos for New Hope’s musical production of Tarzan. I’m really happy that I got booked for this gig! First off, I got to see the show on Friday (thanks Steve for the comp tickets!) and it was incredible! The cast and crew did an amazing job with the entire thing. Sound was spot on, everything was live music performed in the orchestra pit, the acting was great, the singing was perfect, the set was brilliant, etc., etc. And then, I got to photograph the whole thing.
I showed up two hours before the production started and shot images of the cast working hard to get ready for the show. Just makeup alone was quite the endeavor! There were people painting on people with paintbrushes, makeup artists working on the non-ape characters, hair, wardrobe; it was crazy backstage. A lot goes into a show like this.
And then there were sound checks, tons of them. Each featured singer had a wireless mic that had to be checked. The orchestra pit had 10+ musicians creating tons of sounds and melodies next to the stage. Actors stretched, apes danced, people climbed ropes, there was yoga, and the sound guy looked like he had the worst of it. Trying to balancing probably 100+ channels and somehow he made it seem like it was nothing.
And, just before the show I got to shoot a few portraits of the cast in costume. This was a lot of fun!
Then the show started. You cannot comprehend how awesome this musical was, unless you were there. So many working pieces, so much craziness; and it went off without a hitch. I really enjoyed getting to shoot some scenes during the production, but the cast and crew went a step further and let me setup and shoot some scenes after the show too! Everyone was still in makeup and costume and we got to set the stage and lights and just shoot photos. It was incredible. I also got to climb a giant ladder and shoot some images with the entire cast and crew on stage after the show. Love it!
Let me know what you think about my work. And, if you really like what you see here, share it with your friends or find Joshua Rainey Photography on Facebook to stay connected. And last of all, definitely check out any and all productions by New Hope, at the college or at New Hope Eugene. This was incredible, and if you missed it I feel sorry for you. But take heart, and seek out the next project that this amazing group of individuals takes on. Cheers!
